My pregnancy chronicles: 1.Wasn't it belly fat??!!!
On a fine November evening(a little dramatic here!), after performing an antenatal scan for an almost at term nurse at my workplace, an idea popped out to scan my belly for sheer fun. My lower abdominal bloat(or fat) been there since Deepavalli, I thought I've put on tummy with all the Deepavalli eating spree and little did I know about the surprise that awaited me. After adjusting the screen to face me,I started playing on the transducer on my tummy WHATTT I SCREAMED!!! MY ASSISTING NURSE SCREAMS DOCTOR DOCTOR U'VE GOT TWINS!!!! I froze for a moment when i saw two gestational sacs with embryo(the full zoom view I've set earlier on made the image obviously big), my hand shaking ,weakly holding on the transducer,my heart skipped a beat or two. It was an indescribable feel and my world stopped for a bit. With a trembling hand i picked up my phone to call my husband but unfortunately he did not answer. I messaged my sister as I couldn't hold in the news any longer. I tried to calm my nerves down and rang my mother. As i told her about my scan, I kept repeating its twins and they were big and what should i do! Thank God I did not cry,it was just too overwhelming for me at that moment. During times of distress, like any other person I turn to the ultimate life manual ,my mom and my medical degree takes a backseat. She uttered some comforting words (I could sense joy and anxiety as she speaks). She brought me back to my senses before hanging up.I realised I have three more hours before my work shift ends but I couldn't focus at work, the image I saw was all over my brain, I did not dare touch the transducer again. After some time(after the congratulatory session with my clinic staffs), I braved myself to do an urine pregnancy test and as expected there it was a double line on the stick. I sent a picture of it to my husband and my sister(aka my bestfriend) and this time within minutes I received a call from my husband and all i heard was his chuckles (I could picture his all smiles face). The butterfly in my stomach only grew more over the day and I had a sleepless night.
I believe that the maternal intuition in me has driven me to perform the scan and the findings explains the extreme fatigue I've been experiencing recently.
And that's how I discovered my pregnancy!
Disclaimer:
For those wondering how I didn't have a clue ,NO I did not miss my period! ( I did have a rather light and short one, YES its possible)
